Manchester's Kendal's department store on Deansgate, seen from the corner of St Ann's Square. In autumn 2005 Kendals was officially renamed House of Fraser. The futuristic white stone and glass building was opened in 1939. The name Kendals has been synonmous with high quality shopping in Manchester for many decades. I understand the commercial reasons for changing the name to that of the parent company but if Harrods in London were taken over by another company would they change the name?
