Abu Dhabi is a medium-rise city, with buildings mostly around 20 storeys high. We are standing on the Corniche looking up at a new block under construction, with two cranes attached to the side of it. Next door are apartment blocks with balconies overlooking the Gulf.

Abu Dhabi is a prime example of an exclusively modern-style city. Few structures are older than 15 years. After four years in Abu Dhabi I developed a desperate need for older buildings.
