Terry O'Neill began his career in the 1950's and went on to photograph many of the most famous actors, pop stars and personalities of the 1960's. He is one of a small group of London-based photographers who helped to define the 'Swinging Sixties'. His career has continued through subsequent decades and he is still in demand today. In 2003 the book 'Celebrity' was published featuring the best of his work over six decades.
I saw Terry O'Neill's photographs at the Richard Goodall Gallery private viewing on 23 Oct 2003, and also met the photographer. The photos are superbly crafted both technically and creatively, but also contain an element of spontaneity which reveals an essential aspect of the subjects, including Frank Sinatra, David Bowie, Marianne Faithful and others. Inspirational in quality and pure pleasure to look at. Terry is represented by Raj Prem (Raj Prem Fine Art Photography), my old University chum whom I hadn't seen in over 25 years.
