London Millbank Tower (with comments by Eddy Rhead)

Millbank Tower is located on the north bank of the Thames not far from the Palace of Westminster. It was one of London's first high rise office buildings, dating from 1963. The Labour Party headquarters was moved here prior to the 1997 general election but they later moved out due to the high rent. The tower is 382 feet high.

"Millbank Tower was originally called Vickers Tower after the principal occupant, and during the sixties it was one of London's most fashionable buildings. When it was built in 1963 it was the tallest building in London, and whilst there was a cap on building heights in London at the time, it was allowed to be so tall because it was deemed far enough away from any other historical buildings, such as the Houses of Parliament, as to not overshadow them. Much of the building's interest is in the unusual Diablo shape and it is now Grade II listed."
