This statue of a naked man stands above the entrance to Lewis's in Liverpool city centre. St John's Beacon is an obervation tower built in 1965. The restaurant and viewing platform closed in 1977. St John's Beacon is now the home of Radio City 96.7. I went to the top of St John's Beacon on visits to Liverpool in the 1970's. The 'statue exceedingly bare' is celebrated in the song 'In My Liverpool Home' made popular by The Spinners. Thanks to Dave Greene for correcting me - I previously wrote the tower was built in the 1970s.
