The Palm House in Sefton Park was built in 1896, was damaged in World War 2, and went into decline in the 70's and 80's. In 2001 it was re-opened after restoration paid for by the Heritage Lottery Fund. It also serves as a concert and arts venue. See my photo of the Palm House roof taken 2001. The refurbished Palm House looks superb, though through
modernisation it has lost some of its original Victorian charm. I visited it to hear a
concert by mezzo-soprano Sara Helsby-Hughes on 26 September 2004.
