Looking from the waterfront in the seaside town of West Kirby near Liverpool across the Marine Lake. There is a footpath around this enclosed area of water which is used for yachting and other watersports. The neighbouring town of Hoylake lies to the north. We are looking across the estuary of the River Dee. On the other side is Flintshire in Wales. WEst Kirby is on the western tip of Cheshire (in its original boundaries). Since 1974 it has been part of the Wirral local authority district in the Merseyside subregion, and is just a 30 minute train ride from Liverpool city centre.
