Sanrio Puroland is the theme park in Tama City, Tokyo, dedicated to Sanrio characters Hello Kitty and her friends. It's an all-weather, under-cover attraction with rides, gift shops, restaurants, and all kinds of entertainment for children.

At the close of every day, the Hello Kitty musical parade takes place, starring Hello Kitty, My Melody and friends, assisted by an army of dancers, acrobats and other performers, dressed in elaborate costumes. At one point, everything goes dark, and the show is invaded by scary bird-like creatures. But with the help of the kids, who are asked to hold up glowing lights, Hello Kitty banishes the evil forces, and rides away triumpantly on her chariot.

The Hello Kitty parade is a marvellous conclusion to a visit to Sanrio Puroland. The show is extremely professional, beautifully choreographed with elaborate costumes, great, foot-tapping music and a myriad of visual activity full of Japanese-style flair and cuteness. Kids and adults sit on the floor in front of the performance, and the action fills your entire field of vision. It was over far too quickly and I'd love to see it again. Maybe on our next visit to Tokyo.
