The Verrazano Narrows Bridge links Staten Island with Brooklyn. The bridge was opened to traffic on November 21, 1964, and cost $320.1 million dollars to build. It is named after the Italian explorer Giovanni di Verrazano who in 1524 discovered New York Harbor and the east coast of North America. We are looking from the south car park at Liberty Park New Jersey.

The Verrazano Narrows bridge is magnificent to behold. Robert Moses, New York's controversial chief of highways and bridges, said on its completion: "These gigantic, suspended rainbow arches of steel and stone are surely evidence of Divine inspiration." Later on the day I took this photo - Sunday April 17, 2005, I crossed the Verrazano Narrows bridge after driving through Manhattan and Brooklyn.
