Michael Aspel is one of the UK's longest running and most famous tv and radio personalities. Born in London on 12 January 1933, he began his career on a local newspaper, became a newsreader in the 60's and went on to present countless tv and radio shows in the 70's and 80's. In 1993 he was awarded the OBE for services to broadcasting, and has been voted into the Royal Television Society Hall of Fame. He presented This Is Your Life for 15 years until he resigned in 2003. His career continues as presenter of the BBC's Antiques Roadshow (see website).
Despite the passing years and many changes in broadcasting, Michael Aspel looks the same as ever, and is a reassuring link with the founding years of tv and radio in the UK. Long may he continue to appear on our screens. I met and photographed Michael Aspel during the Antiques Roadshow's visit to the Victoria Baths on 26 September 2004.
