Princess Street runs south from Albert Square and is lined with magnificent stone and brick facades from the 19th century. This is the view from the corner of Faulkner St in Manchester's Chinatown. At the end of the street can be seen the towers of Manchester town hall. The former textile warehouses have been converted into shops, offices and restaurants and are part of the intrinsic character of this part of the city centre. It's difficult to believe that in the 1960s, these buildings were considered to be outdated and were to have been demolished. A series of buildings in the style of PIccadilly Plaza were proposed for the area between Piccadilly Gardens and Oxford Street. Luckily that didn't happen, and we are left with the magnificent street scene we see here today.
