Sunley Tower, later renamed City Tower, is part of Piccadilly Plaza, Manchester's first post-war office and shopping development, completed 1965. In the 2000s it has undergone considerable renovation. The concrete end walls were repainted in a protective covering. Also, new windows were added on floors up to the full height of the building. These three-sided 'oriel' windows provide panoramic views of the city below. Many people express a dislike for City Tower / Sunley Tower, but for me it is a symbol of modern Manchester and one of my favourite modern buildings.
