This mural on the Haus des Lehrers - House of Teachers - is one of the most prominent features overlooking the Alexanderplatz in the centre of east Berlin. It was designed by Walter Womacka, one of the most distinguished artists of the GDR. The mural depicts familiar themes of Socialist Realism style of art, including heroic workers, industry, education, the atom and the dove of peace. The mural is a reminder of the Communist legacy in eastern Germany, and irrespective of history or politics is a very beautiful piece of art in its own right.
