A desert safari is a good way to experience the grandeur and stark beauty of the desert and to have a taste of how the people of the emirates used to live before the oil boom. Travel companies will take you by 4WD from the city to a desert camp, where you can spend the evening, or stay overnight. After leaving the main Abu Dhabi to Al-Ain highway and driving off- road onto sand, we stopped to admire these dunes. We watched as our driver demonstrated the daring art of 'dune bashing' in the new Toyota Land Cruiser (left).

Auf einer Wü stensafari kann man die faszinierende Schönheit der Wüste entdecken und ein bisschen den Lebensstil der ehemaligen Golfbewohner erleben. Reiseunternehmen bringen Touristen mit 4WD von der Stadt zu einem Wüstenlager, wo man den Abend verbringen oder übernachten kann. Nachdem wir die Schnellstrasse von Abu Dhabi nach Al- Ain verliessen machten wir eine Pause, um diese Dünen zu bewundern. Unser Fahrer gab uns dann eine Demonstration des 'Dune bashing' - mit dem Allradfahrzeug auf den Dünen zu fahren. Er benutzte dafür den neuen Toyota Land Cruiser (links).
