Split screen VW campers are lined up at the Volkswagen North West show at Tatton Park, Sunday 13 August 2006. The two pristine examples here appear to be both late models from around 1967, the final year of split screen production in Europe.
The pastel green and white camper on the right has a pop-up roof similar to our 1963 van. This is my preferred type of roof as it provides more headroom and easier access to the bunks. The crimson and cream camper to the left has wooden luggage racks on the roof. These vehicles took part in the concours, judged by VW expert and Samba owner Lee Griffiths. On the day of the show early rain cleared, though the skies remained a dull grey.
