Dusk view of Hulme Arch and Princess Road A5103, with the Hilton Tower (Beetham Hilton Tower) on the left. The Hulme Arch is a bridge which carries the reinstated Stretford Road over Princess Road. Viewpoint is the 1960s footbridge.

Princess Road the A5103 is Manchester's main highway to the south. The northern section was only completed in the 1960s, when the wide dual carriage wasy was driven through the slum clearance area of Hulme. A new Hulme was built, but turned out to be a failure.

A third Hulme was created in the 1990s and Stretford Road was reinstated. As a symbol of the new Hulme, the spectacular Hulme Arch was built, joining up the two parts of Stretford Rd. It was opened in 1997. In front of Hulme Arch is Bonsall St bridge, part of the 1960s plan for Hulme.
