Walker's Croft is a survival from medieval Manchester, and follows the line of the River Irk, which was later covered over. Until the 1950s, the attractive cobbles or setts were visible all over Manchester. They are mostly still there, covered over by layers of asphalt. Walker's Croft is one of the few streets where they have been left uncovered.
