The Auditorio de Tenerife houses a large concert hall, plus a smaller hall and conference facilities. It is situated next to the port in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Canary Islands. Its most prominent feature is a large overhanging wing, known by local people as the 'wave'. The building is clad in white shiny tiles of irregular shape. It was designed by renowned architect Santiago Calatrava.
It's an audacious building with an unforgettable design. But I hadn't heard of it or seen photos of it prior to my visit in May 2005, part of a press trip organised by the tourist association of the Canary Islands and Madeira.
