View south towards Manchester city centre from Harcles Hill or Holcombe Hill, near Ramsbottom, with the Peel Tower on the right. The tower was built as a memorial to politician Sir Robert Peel, who was born in the town of Bury. It was opened in 1852.
There is a spectacular view over the Manchester conurbation from here, although the city centre buildings are rather misty as the distance is around 12 miles. This is one of several vantage points with views over Manchester. The others include Werneth Low, Hartshead Pike and Winter Hill. The Peel Monument or Peel Tower is 128 feet high and stands 1100 feet above sea level. More on Wikipedia. This location is in Bury MBC / Lancashire.
