The Dakota Building is one of New York's most famous apartment buidings. It was constructed from 1880 to 1884 and was designed by Henry Hardenbergh. It has a mixture of north German and French architectural styles. It has been the home for many celebrity residents including John Lennon and Yoko Ono. John Lennon was shot dead at around 10.50pm on Monday 8th of December 1980 outside the Dakota Building main entrance facing onto West 72nd Street (bottom left of picture).
