Dublin's Ha'penny Bridge was completely renovated around the Millennium. The entrance steps on both sides were widened and new lighting was added. Here we are looking across the bridge from the north side. The Central Bank of Ireland is visible behind. Ha'penny Bridge is so called because there was once a toll of one half penny. The Ha'penny Bridge is another famous symbol of Dublin, conjuring up images of the old Dublin of the song 'Molly Malone' and of James Joyce. Unfortunately the new lighting takes away all that atmosphere and makes the bridge look almost comtemporary. In particular the overhead lights are far too bright. I much preferred the old dim greenish lights.
