View over Manchester city centre from the top of the CIS building, looking roughly south south west. Manchester town hall clock tower can be seen on the right, and in the upper right, the Hilton (Beetham) tower. Part of Arndale House is just visible on the right. Lowry House is the dark building on the left. The spire of St Mary's (former) church Hulme is visible on the left, with the blocks of flats next to Hulme, actually in Old Trafford (Borough of Trafford), centre left.

The horizon line is marked by the tops of trees on higher ground in Hale and Bowdon (Cheshire), some 12 miles SSW of the city centre. No recognisable landmarks are visible along this section of the horizon. Manchester Airport is off the field of view to the left. The Hilton Tower is the only building to cut above the horizon line. This view, like every cityscape view of Manchester, is a source of endless fascination for me. In many ways, the city looks better, and more timeless, from up there than it does at street level.
