A Northern Rail train leaves the southbound platform of Heaton Chapel station in the direction of Stockport. This is the 18.46 arrival from Manchester Piccadilly. The journey from Piccadilly (formerly London Rd) station takes 8 minutes. At Heaton Chapel there are four tracks, two to allow trains to stop at the station and two for express trains. The station has preserved much of its character from times past. There was a covered footbridge which has since been removed. Access from the booking office on the northbound side is via the bridge which carries Heaton Moor Road across the line.
