Evening view towards Manchester city centre from Marple in the Borough of Stockport. We are looking down Church Lane from a point near the RIng O' Bells pub. Clearly visible around 9 miles to the north west is the futuristic Hilton tower. The silhouetted outline of the roof and chimney of Houldsworth Mill in Reddish can be seen centre left.
The 19th century facades and rooftops as well as the mid-20th century lamp post combined with the evening rays give a nostalgic effect, though the Hilton Tower symbolises the new. It's as if we are looking from the past into the future. The views over Cheshire and the Manchester conurbation are one of the reasons why Marple is a very popular place to live.
