LIVERPOOL AIRPORT CLOSED were the words seen on this sign above the M56 motorway in Cheshire. From 15 April to 22 April 2010 UK airports were closed due to the cloud of ash from the Eyjafjallajökull volcano in Iceland.
It was an almost apocalyptic sight to see this sign on Sunday morning, 18 April. The ban on flights was unprecedented. I personally missed seeing the planes in the sky very much. The flight ban was lifted at 22.00 hrs on Tuesday 2010 after consultations with aircraft engine manufacturers.
