The 19th century railway bridges are extensively decorated on a theme of castles. I'm not sure if the decoration was intended to refer specifically to the Roman Fort which stood close to this location, as there are many castellated railway bridges, for example the one at Runcorn. A First NorthWestern train makes its way over the bridge from Deansgate Station (formerly Knott Mill).
