Where the Mancunian Way crosses Brook St, a ramp comes to a sudden end. It was originally planned to have provided access to a dual carriageway extension of Brook St leading into the city centre. Much of what is now Chinatown would have been swept away to make way for it and luckily it was never built. The slip road to nowhere, partially hidden by the billboard advert, stands as a monument to the fickle nature of road planning in Britain. The broken railings, still bent and unrepaired after an accident, also put across a very negative image of the city.
