Pristine new signs were put up along the Mancunian Way
around 2004. This one indicates familiar local destinations including
Oldham, Ashton-u-Lyne and Openshaw. Tourist destinations appear in the
brown signs inset within the main sign. A smaller sign says "Ring
Road Manchester & Salford Inner Relief Route". Use of the word
'relief' is ironic given the frequent rush hour traffic jams. Also 'Ring
Road' is confusing as it could refer to the M60. On the left is Temperance
St, a reminder of the Victorian era, when the railway viaduct was built.
