Here’s the story of how I became interested in being a voiceover artist.
Since I was a child I’ve been fascinated by different voices, accents and dialects. I was involved in the ModLang drama group as a student of German and French at Trinity College Dublin.
Throughout my career in language coaching, I’ve used my voice to communicate language and help people to learn. I’m very confident at public speaking and have delivered talks to many different groups.
I often make use of radio adverts in my German language teaching. I consider many of them to be mini-masterpieces of scripting, music and sound design.
I enjoy listening to talk radio and for many years I’ve been a fan of German news stations. Some of the presenters have superb voices. I love the sound of the German language spoken above the signature music, which is used as a backdrop to weather and traffic reports and as a link between programme elements. From time to time I like to transcribe reports and speak them myself over the music. It’s fun.
A few years ago I did a radio production training course at ALL fm in Manchester and went on to present a weekly show – The Tuesday Club – on ALL fm. It continued until 2018 when I left in order to focus entirely on my Explore Learn German YouTube channel.
When I started to make videos, people remarked that I had a very good speaking voice, professional-sounding and versatile. Through my involvement in the making of films, I met quite a few actors who did voiceover work and so I became interested in this area.
In late 2018 I recorded my first voiceover showreel at Cavalier Studios, Stockport, where I did a lot of music recording in the past.
I am interested in all types of opportunity in order to gain experience and hopefully become established in a new career as voiceover artist, which I intend to pursue side by side with my teaching and video-making.
As well as my voice talents, I am also reliable, patient, co-operative and easy to get on with! I’m dedicated and will often go the extra mile to get things right!
I am often teaching or travelling and so unable to answer calls. Would you mind please sending a text to 07779 290082 or e-mail info (at) aidan.co.uk. Thank you.
