The old industrial site on the corner of Pin
Mill Brow and Great Ancoats Street was one of the last remaining
factory complexes in this area, one of the first urban industrial
districts in the world. Somehow, the ramshackle old brick buildings,
slate roofs and a tall chimney remained untouched until very
recently. And then the inevitable happened. A few weeks after I
took this photo on 7 July 2004, the site was empty and one of
Manchester's last remaining chimneys from the industrial revolution era
was gone.
