SNOW IN AND AROUND MANCHESTER January 2004

ON THE M60 (formerly M62) at Junction 12 near Eccles, traffic moves at speed along the motorway despite the wet conditions. The snow has turned to rain.

HOLCOMBE HILL ABOVE RAMSBOTTOM is partially covered in snow. The 150 year old monument to Sir Robert Peel stands out on the hill top.

PENDLE HILL, covered in a thin layer of snow, looks cold and forbidding under a grey sky - Not the place to go wandering at this time of year. Pendle Hill is 25 miles (40 km) north of Manchester

THE TATTON ARMS and parish church at Northenden make a painterly scene, marred only by the yellow sign on the front of the pub. Overhead, traffic thunders by on the M60 (formerly M63) viaduct which here crosses the River Mersey.
