|Thursday 25 July 2002: Day One - Overcast with cotton wool clouds over Manchester - warm, and no rain|
IN EXCHANGE SQUARE watch the opening ceremony on the big screen. On the
left is the Corn Exchange, now Triangle, on the right the Arndale Centre,
still to be renovated. In the middle can be seen the Printworks and behind
it, the CIS Building.
EWM says: An enjoyable event, though with not quite as many people as I'd expected.

MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC AND POLICE OFFICERS watch the opening ceremony in front of the 1905 Corn Exchange, now The Triangle shopping centre.
EWM says: It was a happy and good natured event - the police weren't kept busy!
